How To Play Halloween

The first thing to say about the Halloween casino game is that it has a ton of bonus features. We’ll get into those a little later on. But first, let’s take a look at how the game works.

Also, if you want to give this game a try for free, then check out the Halloween demo version, which is available on the Microgaming website. As well as all good online casinos in the UK.

Halloween Screen

Pay table and paylines

Microgaming’s Halloween is a great mix of movie nostalgia and first-class slots gaming. It has 5 reels, 3 to 4 rows and an impressive 50 paylines.

You make winning combos by matching symbols across the paylines, from left to right on the screen. And if you land 3 scatters, then you go to the Trick or Treat bonus game. And in this fun side game, you can unlock free spins, as well as the Bogeyman Bonus game.

In addition to the regular paylines, there are also ‘jumbo blocks’ and ‘wandering reels’, which give you more chances to create winning lines. In fact, when the reel is wandering, the rows go from 3 to 4, which generates more symbols which, in turn, creates more chances to make paylines.

Add to that some scatters, wilds and multipliers and you’ve got yourself one thrill-ride of a slot game!

Halloween wager limits

With 50 fixed paylines, the minimum bet to cover all lines is just 50p. That’s the equivalent of 1p per line. But, if you think of yourself as a high roller, then the max bet of £50 should whet your appetite for this game. Plus, with a max win of 500x your original stake, the Halloween  jackpot is a possible £25,000.

Ok, so the jackpot isn’t the most impressive we’ve ever seen. However, the gameplay is exhilarating, diverse and unique. So, if you’re after a great slot with tons of innovative bonus features, rather than a huge jackpot, then this is the slot for you!

Also, this title has low volatility. Meaning that it pays out regularly, but in modest amounts. Again, this is perfect for if you like spending an evening playing thoroughly enjoyable slot games; as the small but frequent payouts will keep your thirst for a win quenched, while you slash your way through all the many extra features that this game has.

The Halloween experience

There is so much going on in this great movie-tribute game. But, rather than just stuffing the title full of images from the film and leaving it at that, Microgaming have gone all out and brought you a genuinely tense and immersive horror-genre slot game.

Yes, the imagery is all you’d expect from a game devoted to one particular film. But with all the added bonus features and big movie sound effects, this homage to the horror classic is more than just a nod of recognition to the movie makers. It’s a full on slasher experience in itself!

So, if you want to stay alive, out of the clutches of the murderous Michael Myers, and become a Halloween winner, then stay with us. We’re going to unbox this impressive slot game and tell you all about it.

Graphics and theme

In this fun and exciting Halloween slots tribute to the classic horror movie, fans will be delighted to see all their favourite characters and other imagery from the film represented beautifully. If you’ve never seen the movie, it’s about the psychotic Michael Myers, who escapes from the mental hospital he was put into after murdering his parents as a child. He then returns to his hometown and starts murdering the local teenagers, and it’s up to a straight-laced babysitter and Myers’ old psychiatric doctor to stop him.

This movie was a smash hit when it was first released in 1978. And has spawned multiple sequels, remakes and copycats. And this slots game does a great job of marrying all the characters, images and overall atmosphere of the film together.

Also, we particularly love the fact that the reels are set on the backdrop of Myers’ old family home, with autumn leaves blowing across the screen and a thunderous night sky looming in the background.

Finally, we have the beautifully animated symbols. And as the reels spin furiously, you can catch a glimpse of Myers in his scary white mask, darting in and out of the sheets drying on the line in the yard. Truly scary stuff!

Halloween Symbols

In the Halloween slot game, the symbols are all taken directly from the film. From the lead characters looking scared witless, to guns, knives and telephones used to call for help, the imagery is a fantastic accolade to the horror genre.

So, here’s our rundown of all the symbols and the values they carry:

  • Knitting set, matchbook, phone, mask, knife and gun: these symbols listed in order of value, from the knitting set being worth the least, to the gun being worth the most. By landing 3 or more of each symbol on a payline, you could see between a 4x and a 12x stake win. If you can match 4 of them, then you’re looking at between 80x and 180x your stake. But, if you’re lucky enough to find 5 of them, then say hello to between 280x and 400x your stake as a win
  • Lynda: one of Myers’ poor victims. Find Lynda 3 times for a 28x win; 4 times for a 280x win and 5 times for a decent 480x win
  • Annie: another unsuspecting victim of the psychotic killer. Match 3 Annies to get a 32x win; 4 times for 320x win and 5 times for very generous 600x win
  • Loomis: Myers’ psychiatric doctor. Get your hands on 3 Loomis symbols for a 36x win; 4 for a 360x win and 5 for an impressive 800x win
  • Laurie: the hero of the hour! Find 3 of the fearless babysitter for a 40x win; 4 for a 400x win and 5 for a whopping 2,000x win!
  • Pumpkin mask with bloody knife: wild
  • Bonus: scatter symbol. Find 3 of these to be taken to the bonus features

Features of Halloween

Now it’s time to take a look at the features of the Halloween slot machine game. There’s a lot going on here, so let’s break it down and take a look at each feature individually.

Bonus rounds

There are a few bonus features in this title. Firstly, in the base game, you go to the Trick or Treat Wheel by finding 3 scatters, where you’re guaranteed a prize. From there, spin the wheel and see which symbol it lands on. The options are the characters from the film and multipliers up to 10x your total stake.

The characters from the film all equal free spins. But if you’re lucky enough to land on Michael Myers himself, then you’ll be whisked off the Bogeyman Bonus game. This is a traditional ‘click and pick’ style game, consisting of a screen full of autumn leaves. Behind each leaf is a prize. And there are some cheeky multipliers thrown in for good measure, too. In fact, on this bonus feature, there’s a potential 290x stake prize.

Free spins rounds

You activate the free spins round by finding the stars of the film in the Trick or Treat Wheel feature. If you land any character, apart from Michael Myers, you’ll be awarded 9 free spins. However, it’s important to note that you can’t win any more free spins. So, it’s a not-so-generous 9 free spins max.

Jumbo blocks and wandering reels

2 unique features of this game that make it special are the jumbo blocks and wandering reels. The jumbo blocks refer to the fusing of 3×3 symbols becoming 1 giant symbol, which gives you more chances to create paylines. In fact, this jumbo block can expand to cover 3 reels and a 4th row, which appears only within the jumbo block. This gives you the equivalent of 12 symbols all being the same, so your chances of landing those all-important paylines increases dramatically.

Then, the wandering reels refer to 3 reels spinning in tandem, which can move from side to side across the screen. It’s these wandering reels that create the jumbo blocks. So the 2 features are designed to work with each other, giving you even more chances to win.

Halloween free spins

If you want to get your hands on even more free spins than are offered in the game itself, then look at becoming a new customer at an online casino. Real money websites almost always offer new players a very enticing welcome package. And these deals often come with free spins. One of the most popular bonuses is the free spins no deposit bonus. This is where the casino will give you a handful of free spins, without you having to pay anything into the site.

However, these offers tend to be low in value. So, if you want to snap up lots of free spins, then you should look for a deposit bonus with free spins instead. This type of deal requires you make a deposit with the casino before you can claim your bonus. And, as such, the offers are far more generous, and you could see yourself snatching upwards of 100 free spins.

Halloween progressive jackpots

Unfortunately, this game does not have a progressive jackpot. And, actually, the standard jackpot that it does have is by no means the most impressive on the market. That being said, this game is far more concerned with fun, innovation and excitement than it is with big money prizes.

So, Halloween jackpot winners have probably won a nice amount by playing this title. But our guess is that they’re big fans of the movie and love the game, rather than being big money seekers.

Halloween slot RTP

The Halloween RTP is 96.10%. This is considered average for a slots game. Return to player (RTP) is the percentage of your stake that the software developer reckons you’ll get back if you play one game for long enough.

Unfortunately, nobody knows what this time period is set at, but RTP gives you a good indication of how likely it is for you to break even over an extended period of gameplay. Most slot games have an average RTP of around 96%, so this game is right on the button. This means that, if you were to stake £100 at the beginning of a game, then you should see £96.10 of that back throughout the time you play.

Our Rating

It’s safe to say that we adore the fun and frightening Halloween slot UK title. The bonus features and attention to detail make this a great tribute to a classic film. From the crisp graphics to the eerie sound effects, Microgaming really went above and beyond when making this homage to the slasher smash hit.

Plus, with multiple bonus features, jumbo blocks, wandering reels and low volatility, you don’t have to be a fan of the film to have a thoroughly enjoyable time on this great slots game.
